Stop Internet Explorer saving Viewed Image

When people develop web-based DICOM project they may find that Internet Explorer as the web browser always caches Images that have been viewed, in the temporary folder. To solve this problem, or to stop IE saving temporary files you can do either of the followings:

  • Use https rather than http (always a good idea anyway) and set the browser’s settings not to cache encrypted web pages
  • Use the following command in your asp scripts:
Response.CacheControl = "no-cache" (but see note in the article below, where they suggest "no-store" instead)

In fact, there are other things people can do as well, such as setting the cache validity time to (almost) zero, which then provides a second level of protection.
